ACS is flying in to help the RedHawks this semester! Academic Coaching Specialists has the top academic coaches and tutors for Miami University students!
Both academic coaching and tutoring can be beneficial to a college student. While tutoring can help with a specific subject, coaching can cover a wide array of areas, allowing for improvement across all classes.
Tutoring services can help students with a particular subject or challenging concept within that subject. Tutors work one on one to find a way of explaining the concept that resonates with the student. An academic coach, however, will cover all areas of academics, including things like time management and study strategies for all subjects and courses. Academic coaching introduces learning tools and strategies that create more effective habits, leading to increased success in the classroom and beyond. Tutoring and coaching are not mutually exclusive and can be used together to create a strong support system.

How Academic Coaching Works
An experienced educator will meet with the student on a weekly basis. They will cover any issue the student is having, along with creating a strategy to work ahead and stay ahead in all classes. The student will never have to wonder how they are doing. The coach will give meaningful feedback each week that will allow the student to stay focused or re-target when necessary.
NEARLY 1/3 OF COLLEGE FRESHMEN DROP OUT BEFORE THEIR SOPHOMORE YEAR

At Miami University, we work with high-achieving students, average students and students who need more support. Whatever level your student is at now is the right place to start! Working with an academic coach can address and strengthen areas of concern, while also sharpening their already successful skills.
Freshmen starting or continuing their first year are our most common clients. Starting from the top, we proactively work with students on what they already know from high school and build on those skills to create an even better college experience. Students who start their freshman year with academic coaching find they are much more prepared and ahead of their peers. They are also less stressed and find they have more free time to enjoy non-academic activities.
Students who find themselves falling behind or on academic probation at Miami University can take part in our Academic 911 program. This academic coaching program is designed to address the immediate problems in order to get the student back in good standing. Coaches will identify any individual problems, making any necessary referrals for tutoring or other campus resources as appropriate. Further, students will learn how to avoid potential issues in the future and break any bad habits of the past.
Online courses can be a challenge for some students. Providing accountability and a step-by-step plan, our coaches are there each week to assist students taking any online course. Academic Coaching Specialists can help students remain focused and engaged. Tutoring can help with comprehension, but is not always the best option. For these types of courses, the material is not typically or necessarily the problem. Rather, the ability to see things laid out and in order, along with some incremental goals and motivation are usually all that is required to see vast improvements.
