What is academic coaching? In short, it is a one-on-one relationship between a professional educator working with a student who struggles with executive function issues. There are so many ways academic coaching can bring out the best in your student in Twinsburg, OH! Let us tell you all about Academic Coaching and why you need it this year!
COVID-19
Whether or not your student had to go remote for a time, things have certainly been disjointed. This has caused routines to be upended, and progress to be slowed. We can help get them back on track.
ADD/ADHD, Anxiety, Executive Function Disorder
a suspicion or diagnosis of any of these challenges can present a myriad of difficulties with the learning process. A coach can lessen the stresses associated with these and get your student to start experiencing success and the confidence they need.
ATHLETES
Busy practice and game schedules can make it difficult to stay on top of schoolwork. Academic coaches help students stay organized. They teach techniques that can help athletes make the most of their time when studying, doing homework or planning their next paper or project. Keep them eligible with a coach for the classroom!
EXTRA SUPPORT
Students have had a heck of a ride these past few years. A lot of students have some level of difficulty with transition or change. ALL students had some degree of challenge with the many formats their education took on. It is definitely a time where students need to be supported through all the “extra” that has been happening in their world recently. Let us provide stability for them each week. We want to help them on the tough days and celebrate the wins alongside them. Our coaches truly care.
CONFIDENCE
If your teen lacks self-confidence about school, our coaches can help them see where they shine. Acknowledging areas prime for growth, they also focus on increasing areas of strength. Once your student starts to experience success, it will create a momentum that naturally wants more. You will see a new drive and passion for learning, as well as a more confident and positive attitude.
HEALTHY INTERDEPENDENCE
Academic coaching teaches students to lean on their coach when they need help. Often, students feel like they have to do everything themselves, and are typically awkward about asking for help. This can come across to parents or teachers in many ways-from appearing lazy to super anxious. Coaches work with them to teach what level of help and intervention is needed, teach them what questions to ask and at what times, and eventually leads them to a place where they can do most of the work on their own. This is an important skill to have in school and in life!

TUTORING
If your high school student is stressed with their demanding course load or needs help getting back on top of a challenging subject, give us a call.
Sometimes as a parent, you can feel like you have tried so many things over the years to help your kids. By the time they are teens, they just want to see what they can do on their own. Naturally, they become more independent, and want less help or intervention from you. Very often, however, they are not quite ready to fly solo.
If there is a particular subject they still struggle with, getting a tutor is an excellent way to help them, while maintaining your distance. Academic tutors from ACS are the perfect way to ensure they are getting the support they need. You remain involved because the tutors will send reports every week to keep you informed of their progress. Each step will be documented with action items to work on between sessions. This gives your teen a clear direction to focus on, while working independently.
Above all, you know your son or daughter best. They may be at a delicate age where they are striving for independence, but by putting a support system in place such as a tutor, it is a great way to show them that you believe in them and to teach them that they can and should take advantage of opportunities and tools that will benefit them.
