TUTORING
If your high school student is stressed with their demanding course load or needs help getting back on top of a challenging subject, give us a call.
If you are looking for a tutor for the semester, Academic Coaching Specialists is the place to be! We provide the most experienced and dedicated educators who want to share their talents with your student. Tutoring has long been the go-to when having trouble in a particular subject. We focus on results and process because we believe that long-term results are worth working toward.
Here are 3 steps for tutoring success:
1. Commit to the process
If your student is half-hearted about improving, there will be little result. However, if they are dedicated to doing things differently and looking at things through a different lens, then positive changes will occur naturally. Students will take charge of the process and together with their tutor, will learn to view their most dreaded subject with a new appreciation.
2. Give it some time
Changing a habit takes time. Changing an attitude can take longer. A successful outcome from tutoring not only involves learning of material, but also requires a change in attitude and habit. Try to start tutoring at the first sign of trouble. Allow the process to work over time. Sessions should be reoccurring for at least 8 weeks to see changes that will last.
3. Communicate
The student must let the tutor know what is working and what is not. The advantage of being one-on-one is that the tutor can focus solely on your student, making sure they understand material and are able to apply it effectively and independently. If the student does not inform them otherwise, they assume all is working well. Progress, both good and bad, must be shared openly in order for steady improvement to be made.
