Give your student a tutor who is both an expert in their subject, as well as in teaching it. Often teachers or professors have spent a lifetime acquiring knowledge on a particular subject, making them highly educated. They do so at the expense of learning how to explain it to students who learn differently. This can create a disconnect for a student who is trying to learn a particular subject, and they may conclude that they are “just not good at it”. False! Our tutors can renew your son or daughter’s confidence and perhaps just make them like the very subject they grapple with. Don’t let them struggle another year! Call us today to get started with a tutor or coach from ACS!

Academic coaching is a great way to set your teen up for a successful school year. Here are 3 ways they can help:
1. Proactive thinking
A lot of what academic coaches focus on are executive functioning skills. These include things like planning, organization and segmenting time. Looking ahead and planning with the end in mind allows students to make time a real thing. They can visualize it and predict the outcome based on preparation. Coaches can show them how if they actively plan to succeed and follow though, there are better outcomes and less stress.
2. Time management
Watching less YouTube and TikTok videos, playing less video games and less losing track of time: these are the things that you likely want to see with your teen. These are also the most attractive things to them, particularly if your child has ADHD or other focus/attention issues. Academic coaches will act in a similar way to athletic coaches, in that they will encourage positive behaviors, discourage negative ones, and help them to find a balance that will allow them to be productive and have fun. Using a planner and clock in very easy ways will help them monitor their time and make adjustments each week to get their best efforts.
3. Accountability
Our coaches can provide the gentle push and pull students need when it comes to accountability. They do not do it in a harsh manner, rather they establish a relationship with the student where the student wants to make good on their word. The coach ensures that they follow through on what they said they would, and this sets up a trust between the two that is very strong. After just a few months, students begin to develop new habits and rather than making excuses, they find ways to get things done and turned in on time, every time.
