Motivating a Teenager Who Doesn’t Like School in Massillon, OH

Are you looking for help motivating a teenager who doesn’t like school in Massillon, OH? Are you desperate to find something that will move the needle in the right direction? Have you tried talking to them, pleading with them, and giving them “tough love”? Maybe it is time for something different.

What about an academic coach? Coaches provide direction and structure for students who have difficulty navigating the many assignments and requirements that school demands. For those struggling with ADHD, the sheer organization of it all can seem overwhelming. Students who experience anxiety can constantly be worried that their work is “not good enough” or “perfect”, and as such, they shut down, become disconnected or simply stop turning things in.

Academic Coaching Specialists can help by providing your student with a one-on-one coach or tutor who will walk them through each week. They will encourage them to work toward goals, discuss ways to improve study habits, manage their time better, and above all, stay on track. No more turning things in late (or not at all). No more waiting until the last minute to study for an exam. No more forgetting about an assignment that was due. Coaches will keep your student on a schedule and accountable.

Tough Subjects Can Cause Frustration

For some, certain subjects cause strong feelings of dislike, particularly if they find the class difficult. In the past, they may have had an inadequate or uncaring teacher who either failed to teach the topic well or who created some negative environment or experience that still is top of mind when your student hears the subject. This can cause a student to feel as if they are powerless to overcome a challenge such as thins. They may even write themselves off as “just not being good at” that subject.

Tutors at ACS understand that these experiences are very real to students and that they need to start where they are and move them forward, creating new and positive interactions with material. Tutors work to build understanding and confidence so that your son or daughter can experience success and in their challenging subject, and perhaps even begin to like it. They will come to understand that a difficult and frustrating subject of the past can become an intriguing and exciting subject for them right now.
