At Academic Coaching Specialists our coaches pride themselves on fostering the development of students’ academic and personal goals. As mentors we demonstrate successful life principles such as learning strategies, time management, planning for deadlines, and avoiding procrastination. Our one-on-one student relationships, allow for the opportunity to discuss experiences, in and out of the classroom, and uncover what resources are needed to achieve the student’s goals.
Our mentorships begin as weekly sessions, where students may be more heavily reliant on their coach for guidance throughout their freshman year. Over time, this reliance eventually tapers off as the student demonstrates progress in their academics and an increase in their own confidence.

Establishing measurable outcomes for our coach / student relationships is an essential part of our program. They are utilized to determine the impact of coaching on students and the degree to which it is contributing to their academic experience and overall success.
When it comes to the student, there is an expectation that the student will read the material listed each week prior to the scheduled meeting. The reading should take 15-20 minutes and may include some follow up activities or reflection that will need to be completed before each session. Coaches will routinely monitor the student’s progress and review the student’s planner to ensure that it is being utilized correctly. This instills accountability and reinforces principles that will serve them well throughout their academic career and set them up for successful life habits.
