Academic Coaching Specialists can offer an effective turnkey solution in response to Governor DeWine’s mandate that does not involve extending your school year. Our coaches are able to seamlessly implement one-on-one, cross-curriculum support for your students!
We are experienced educators who are eager to help your students gain back or discover their confidence. Through our curriculum, they will work on the things that have the largest impact such as:
- Time Management
- Problem Solving
- Study Strategies
- Test Preparation
- Note Taking Techniques
- Follow-Through
- Metacognition
- Stress Reduction
- Motivation & Goal-Setting
Each week our coaches will meet with your identified students after school either in person or virtually via Zoom. Just like an athletic coach, they will provide them with the skills, accountability, encouragement, and motivation to be their very best.
Implementation Options
Your school could begin with a 3-stage roll-out:
1. Start with students who you identify as needing the most help
2. Expand to those you determine to be borderline
3. Offer to all
Or: Only offer to students who you identify as needing the most help
Or: Open the program up to any families that want to take advantage of it
Step #1: Get Parent Permission
We provide program information and guarantee coaches are credentialed and have current BCI. Families will choose whether they want in-person (at school) or on-line coaching. (We would not go to their homes for this program unless parents wanted to pay personally for the additional travel time and milage for the coach).Parents will select best days/times for availability and complete a FERPA agreement.
Step #2: Have participating students take VARK and Myers-Briggs assessments (we provide).
Step #3: We match student with best coach according to preferences and assessment results.
Step #4: Weekly coaching sessions begin; coaches meet with student two times each week for the length of the school year.
ACS would be compensated by your school for the number of students being coached for the length of the contracted school year (with the exception of any week-long breaks when coaching will not occur)
Student will be responsible for showing up unless excused; if excused, coach will attempt to make up session within the same week when possible. This may have to be virtual, even if the normal meetings are in-person.
