Academic Coaching Specialists are available for your Cavaliers this semester!
Looking for a tutor? Have you considered an academic coach?
Academic coaching is available for all Walsh University students, regardless of the subject. Unlike tutoring, academic coaching goes beyond just one subject area. Walsh students will learn how to effectively prepare for exams and papers, take good notes in all types of classes, build confidence, and create strategies to become the masters of their time! We will introduce new learning tools and ideas that create good habits, leading to increased success, both in and out of the classroom.
How does Academic Coaching Work?
Each week, one of our experienced educators will work with the student, either remotely or in-person. The student may be required to do some outside reading or assignment between each session as assigned by the coach. The two then work together on learning goals. This provides mentorship and guidance for the student as they work toward becoming more independent in their learning.
How can Academic Coaching help students at Walsh University?
Working one-on-one with a coach will provide the necessary support for students to:
- learn good time management and study habits
- understand how to study appropriately for each type of class
- learn the steps and strategies to incrementally prepare for exams
- take the pain out of the process of writing papers
- break down larger projects into smaller tasks that can be done easily each day
- become more confident in their abilities

NEARLY 1/3 OF COLLEGE FRESHMEN DROP OUT BEFORE THEIR SOPHOMORE YEAR

College Freshmen
Freshmen starting or continuing their first year are our most common clients. We find that the best approach to college is a proactive one. Starting from the top, we work with students on what they already know from high school and build upon those skills. Walsh University students who start their freshman year with an academic coach find they are much more prepared and ahead of their peers. They are also less stressed and find they have more free time to enjoy non-academic activities.
Academic Probation
Students who find themselves on academic probation at Walsh University can take part in our Academic 911 program. This academic coaching program is designed to address the immediate problems in order to get the student back in good standing. Further, it teaches how to avoid potential issues in the future and strives to break any bad habits of the past. Coaches will identify any individual problems, and make any necessary referrals for tutoring where appropriate.
Online or Remote Learning
Trouble with online or remote courses? Academic Coaching Specialists can also help Walsh students remain focused and engaged in their virtual or hybrid classes. Tutoring is not always the best answer for these types of courses, as the content is not typically the problem. Rather, the ability to see things laid out and in order, along with some incremental motivation, is usually all that is needed for students to see a vast improvement. Providing accountability and a step-by-step plan, students will begin to see how online courses can be successfully navigated. Our coaches will stay involved each week, making sure you are not overwhelmed or procrastinating on getting things completed.
Top athletes have trainers and coaches to help them reach their potential. Putting an academic coach in your corner today can ensure you will have the support needed to get through even the toughest semester.
