1.
Our program begins with a comprehensive coachability and personality assessment that allows us to strategically match the student to the best coach, based on their common interests and natural learning/teaching styles.
2.
Next, the student, coach and parents collaborate to review the program and to set goals, expectations and establish the feedback system for the semester.
3.
Beginning 4 weeks before the semester, students meet with an academic coach from ACS, either in person or online. Each week students are introduced to new learning concepts as well as review what successes and challenges have surfaced from the previous week.
4.
Unlike typical academic tutoring, the academic coach will expect the student to complete small tasks in between each weekly session. These tasks will be comprised of short readings and videos from various leaders, psychologists and other learning experts who will introduce life success principles and give detailed explanations that will echo the various learning skills that are being worked on for the week. This helps the student develop a deeper meaning of why they need to learn these skills and how they will enhance their life once they are out of college. While these exercises do require some dedicated time, they are critical to the success of the program.
Coaching is not meant to replace tutoring. Our comprehensive program provides the student with the skills necessary to be successful in college and in life after. A coach can help identify if academic tutoring is needed in a specific content area and will make appropriate recommendations.
As a part of the program, each student is expected to use the ACS Time Management System. It includes a custom planner designed to allow them to become the master of their time. This is included in the cost of the program. When used consistently and as instructed, it works 100% of the time to keep students on top of their tasks. They also find they enjoy an overall reduced stress level and increased confidence, as they begin to see the benefits of good time management.
