ACADEMIC COACHING OR TUTORING FOR CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

ACS is ready to jump in to help the Spartans this semester! Academic coaching or tutoring for Case Western Reserve University Students is available through Academic Coaching Specialists.

Tutoring services can help students with a particular subject or challenging concept. On the other hand, academic coaching can cover all areas of academics, including things like time management and study strategies. Academic coaching introduces learning tools and strategies that create effective habits, leading to increased success in the classroom and beyond. These are not mutually excusive, and can be used together to create a strong support system for your student.

CWR students can have a “personal trainer” for their academic experience!

Top athletes have trainers and coaches to help them reach their potential. Students attending Case are top academics, who can also benefit from this style of personal coaching and added support. Putting an academic coach in place today can ensure your student will have the support needed to get through even the toughest semester.

  • Our coaches are experienced educators, not peers
  • We earn trust by demonstrating our methods work in and out of the classroom
  • We don’t just respond to a student’s needs, we anticipate them

Find out which one is best for your student by taking our brief needs analysis survey.

How Academic Coaching Works

An experienced educator will work with the student on a weekly basis. The student and coach will meet at a mutually agreed upon time/place (remote options available) to review each week’s materials. The student will be required to do some outside reading or assignment between each session as assigned by the coach. The two then work together on building a relationship that provides mentorship and guidance for the student as they work toward becoming more independent in their learning.

How Academic Coaching helps students at Case Western Reserve University

Working one-on-one with a coach will provide the necessary support for students to:

  • Understand time management in college
  • Improve focus and increase efficiency
  • Learn how to study and take notes to get the most benefit for each class
  • Identify the steps and strategies to effectively prepare for college exams
  • Root out any habits that lead to procrastination
  • Take the pain out of the process of writing a paper
  • Provide encouragement and inspiration

What type of students do Academic Coaches work with?

At Case Western Reserve, we work with high-achieving students, average students and students who need more support. Whatever level your student is at is the right place for them to start! Working with an academic coach can address and strengthen areas of concern, while also honing their already successful skills.

College Freshmen

Freshmen starting or continuing their first year are our most common clients. We find that the best approach to academic coaching is a proactive one. Starting from the top, we work with students on what they already know from high school and build on those skills to create an even better college champion. CWR students who start their freshman year with academic coaching find they are much more prepared and ahead of their peers. They are also less stressed and find they have more free time to enjoy non-academic activities.

Academic Probation

Students who find themselves falling behind or on academic probation at Case Western Reserve University can take part in our Academic 911 program. This academic coaching program is designed to address the immediate problems in order to get the student out of the hole and back in good standing. Further, students will learn how to avoid potential issues in the future and break any bad habits of the past. Coaches will identify any individual problems, making any necessary referrals for tutoring or other campus resources as appropriate.

Online or Remote Learning

Online courses can be a challenge to some students. Academic Coaching Specialists can help CWR students remain focused and engaged in these types of courses. Sometimes, tutoring is not always the best answer for these types of courses, as the material is not typically the problem. Rather, the ability to see things laid out and in order, along with some incremental goals and motivation are usually all that is required to see vast improvements.  Providing accountability and a step-by-step plan, Academic Coaches are there each week to assist students taking any online course.
