3 Unexpected Ways a Tutor Can be Beneficial to Your Student

If your student is having trouble with certain a certain subject, tutoring can be a great way to help them improve comprehension. But did you know there are other ways they can help as well?

1. Even though the subject material may be frustrating them, it is likely also that the teacher is causing them some anxiety as well. Our tutors can give your son or daughter strategies to overcome personality conflicts with the teacher, and do well in spite of feelings. These “people skills” are invaluable, not only in school, but in life. Learning how to get along with people they find difficult is a necessary part of life and will serve them well in their future.

2. Have you ever heard your child say something like, “I just stink at math!”, or something similar? Particularly with so many careers involving math, students will give up on hopes of pursuing any of them if they have the perception that they are “bad at” it. More alarmingly, some teachers even reinforce this idea to them when discussing future career plans. Oftentimes, after working with our tutors, they learn that it is not the subject that they dislike at all. Once the material is clear and the confusion removed, students discover they may actually like the subject they had such a hard time with. Building confidence over time and demonstrating they are capable of success can literally change the path to their future!

3. Confidence is contagious. If your teen experiences success in a subject that has given them grief in the past, it has a large effect on their other work. Once they begin to believe in their abilities, they put forth more effort, feel more positive, and generally like school more! Tutors from Academic Coaching Specialists are able to build confidence, dispel negative self-talk, and lead your student to a better year all around!
