HIGH SCHOOL
TUTORING
If your high school student is stressed with their demanding course load or needs help getting back on top of a challenging subject, give us a call.
If most of these areas are strong, college is a good next step. If there are a few or more areas that are in need of some work, consider teaming up with one of our Academic Coaches. Together, they will help your student determine if college is a realistic goal and if so, what they need to do to prepare for the journey.
We are not proponents of the theory that college is for everyone. It honestly is not. But for your student, if they are thinking about it, here are some important things to consider:
1. Are they academically prepared?
a. Did their high school do a good job at getting them ready for the rigor that will be expected of them in college?
b. Do they know how to study on their own to do more than just memorize?
c. Do they understand how to make connections to what they learn and why it is important?
d. Were they held to a standard of turning work in on time and remember deadlines on their own with minimal reminders?
2. Are they socially and mentally prepared?
a. Would they be able to step into a new environment filled with new people and expectations?
b. Can they adapt to roommates or classmates who do things differently than they do?
c. Are they independent and responsible enough to get themselves where they need to be on time?
d. Do they take ownership when they make mistakes or are they quick to give excuses?
3. Do they clearly understand their goals and are they willing to work for them?
a. Do they understand what career they are focused on and what it will take to get there?
b. Do they understand the standard of living they are striving for and if their chosen career will allow them to live the lifestyle they envision?
c. Are they aware that they will struggle at some point and that they have to have a strong enough desire to get to their goal to work through it?
