Ready or not, college is around the corner! The ACS Senior Connections College Prep program is uniquely designed to get your college-bound students prepared for all the excitement and changes college will bring. The program helps your college-bound seniors to make those connections between all they have been working for in high school and what lies ahead for them in college.
This is a one-on-one program that can be customized to work with all high school seniors, regardless of college readiness or the level of their academic abilities. The focus is on their individual goals of going to college. We start by determining or defining their “why” when it comes to going to college. Giving them the ability to articulate what they hope to experience and do while there, as well as the type of career they want to focus on. Major and career exploration along with budgeting, common freshman pitfalls, understanding the importance of GPA and how to calculate it, discovering midterms and finals and how are they different from high school exams, keeping a planner, studying techniques, taking notes, writing papers, and much more!
College readiness is about more than just academic ability, it’s also about the development of critical executive functioning skills. For example, learning to manage time is the number one challenge freshmen experience when in college. We utilize a simple but effective 4 step planning system that will create good habits and promote proactive thinking and planning. We will get and keep them organized and demonstrate how adding accountability can actually be a good thing, even if they are trying to assert their independence.
Our coaches walk alongside the student to reduce anxieties and inspire them to ask questions and find answers. Complete transparency between the students, their parents, and the coach, is expected so that the entire process feels comfortable and exciting, not frustrating and stressful. They will be college-ready, complete with the skills and knowledge to help them make a smooth transition to campus next year.
