Our Covid Catch-Up Learning Remediation program can be utilized for individual students or for entire grade levels. Each student gets their own academic coach, who will be carefully matched with expertise in the areas in most need of learning remediation & intervention. Together, they will work hard, celebrate progress, and most importantly, build a relationship that fosters trust and understanding. Your students will be more confident knowing that they have that coach in their corner, rooting for them and cheering them on every step of the way.
A solid remedial learning program requires a lot of one-on-one time with students that teachers just don’t have right now. Students’ learning gaps are much wider than they have been in the past and are being scrutinized at higher levels. Until they are able to fill them in, progress can be slow.
You can liken this phenomenon to learning to tie your shoes; if you are unable to learn the skill of tying your shoes, you still have to wear them, but will inevitably have to keep stopping to put your shoe back on, as it will continue to fall off as you try to walk forward over time. At some point your frustration at not knowing how to tie your shoes will cause you to work very hard and keep repeating and practicing until you finally get it. After that, progress is much faster and the skills can continue to build. We are able to take that pain point for the student and turn in into a great feeling of accomplishment that will propel them into the next big thing in their education.
Coaches are available to meet before, during, or after school hours, depending on the preference of your school. Access to a Zoom-enabled device, ear buds or headphones, and a quiet or limited-distraction environment is all that is needed. Sessions are typically set up for 1 hour, and students meet with their coach 2 separate and non-consecutive days each week. A quick email is sent at the end of each week to share what was covered, progress made, and work to be completed before the next session.
Even though remediation causes us to pause and revisit material, it never stops focusing on the future. Our academic coaches will constantly be setting goals with students and align what they are working on today with what they have coming up next. Coaches in the learning remediation program will maintain open communication with teachers, staff and administrators as appropriate to ensure transparency.
