HIGH SCHOOL
TUTORING
If your high school student is stressed with their demanding course load or needs help getting back on top of a challenging subject, give us a call.
1. Time management
We provide a custom academic planner system that will help them visualize time and begin to think and plan proactively. This is an essential tool that the coach will be using interactively with your student. They will provide accountability and follow up on its usage. No more forgetting about or missing a deadline.
2. Organization
Some students can look ahead at their day or week and instinctively know what materials and items they will need to gather and have ready. For others, this can seem like an overwhelming task. An academic coach will walk them through the week ahead and assist them in creating a system that works for them to maintain organization of tools and materials for the ever-changing schedules of classes, projects, tests, and activities.
3. Focus
Coaches will assess the length of focus your student can maintain and help them to work within their optimal timeframe. This could be anything from breaking readings into very small parts, to teaching them techniques to block out distractions, to bringing awareness to what time of day they are at their best.
4. Study Skills
Students develop their own ways of learning and memorizing material over the course of their early education. For some, they never move beyond that. However, as students move on in their education, the ways in which they learn and commit information to memory should evolve. The goal is no longer simply to memorize and recall by strict recognition, but to deeply understand material and be able to apply and adapt it to multiple situations. Academic coaching can strengthen their study skills and introduce new ways of learning information that create lasting effects.
5. Goal Setting
This comes in the form of a detailed plan packed with encouragement and motivation. Coaches will talk about the student’s goals, help them create actionable steps, a realistic timeline, and then follow up on each step, seeing them through each goal’s completion. The process is repeated many times and becomes second nature. The idea is that once the student understands how to set and work toward a goal, experiencing set-back or attainment, they are able to go on and set their own, larger goals in the same manner. This teaches many skills such as planning, resiliency, problem-solving and reinforcement.
