Academic Coaching & Tutoring for Students with ADHD

Working with students with ADD and ADHD is one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of teaching. Challenging, because it tests educators to find ways to “get through” to students; find where they are and meet them there. It takes some of the control away from the teacher and forces them to give some to the student. This is incredibly rewarding as well because the teacher can grow in this way and discover new and creative ways to teach material. Students benefit because the educator needs to listen and understand what they need and how they take in information and process it.

Unfortunately, there are some educators who cannot or will not see things in this way. If your student is struggling to learn information in the “traditional” way of being lectured to, reading and trying to recall for tests, we can help.

Providing an academic coach can help students with ADHD to:

1. Understand their learning preferences and be able to advocate for themselves

2. Develop a proactive strategy that involves the help and support of others

3. Learn more efficient ways to study that keep them interested to promote better recall

4. Stay motivated and encouraged, even when they are feeling overwhelmed or frustrated

According to the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) 13.5 percent of children ages 12-17 are diagnosed with ADHD in the United States. This number has steadily grown upward over the last 20 years or so. There has been much research about the condition, but not as much surrounding the ways in which educators can assist these students in their learning. These students and ALL students deserve to have caring educators who are willing to go out of their way to allow a student to be successful.

Our coaches are experienced and able to get your students more focused and organized. You will see their confidence rise along with their grades!
